I had the day off – the Friday of the start of the National Folks Festival in Butte and thought we’d head out that way to see it since this year is the last year it will be held in Butte and of course I didn’t make it out there the first two years it was there. Grr… but then I obviously didn’t do my research when heading out because all the advertising did say: Fri, Sat, & Sun… but I didn’t know that on Friday – it didn’t start until 7pm so we got there early and well – walked around. So the good thing is that we got to see the town and then some of the show but it started to sprinkle and Ber and I needed to head back because we were going to cover the farmers market for my sister-n-law early in the morning so didn’t see much. Well – now if I ever want to go to the Folks Fest, I’ll have to head out to another state
Here are some photos from our trip. - usually post more on flickr, haven’t had the chance yet but will do soon, so check there too!
Last weekend we were suppose to go visit my mommy because they were going to have this husplig thing but it was cancelled because one of my far grand aunts passed away so they’re moving it to next weekend instead. So Ber and I headed to Great Falls to hang out with some of our friends. It was a nice get away, did nothing much, rest and went and saw some of the dams with the ‘ok’ falls. lol – ok they were ‘great’.
Yikes! She cancelled on me again. This is the third time she’s done that to me. Really nice girl on MM and we’ve done a shoot once, but since that first time, every time she’d come asking for a shoot, i’d set aside time and really not make any plans for a couple of hours of my day in order to prepare for it and she just cancels. What do other photographers, who do TF work, do in this kind of situation? Should I just not agree to do photos with said individual in the future anymore? or what other things should I do in order to ensure a shoot. Grr – being from Missoula, MT – there aren’t many models out there either so to get some TF stuff in is even quite unusual. My day didn’t go that bad either since I had another shoot prior to the cancelled one and it went pretty well.
[deep sigh] aside from that, the day looks like it will going get better. I’ll be heading off to a brinner thing in a bit and I’m so excited!! lol – breakfast for dinner, instead of lunch (brunch)!! I don’t think I coined that phase but you always hear people talk about brunch, we my girls and i are having brinner. hehe. I can’t think of anything to bring so I’m just going to bring sausages because who doesn’t like sausage.
Well, here’s some of my top picks from a fashion/model/makeup shoot! Visit my flickr site for bigger photos!
These are clips from Colbie’s concert here in Missoula. Silly thing is that in some of them, you can hear this lady singing really loudly and annoying. lol – Kim and I couldn’t move because we didn’t want to lose our spot
Recently I’ve received several inquiries from brides from surrounding area or states that are planning to have their wedding here in Missoula or surrounding area, and they’re all clueless as to how else they will find additional information about local vendors other than running a search on Google. I don’t think that that’s a bad idea but also thought, to myself that maybe a Facebook fan page might do the trick since many people are on there already, and if they’re not yet then they’re bound to be since it’s the new way to connect and reconnect with friends and family and network with businesses.
So when asked who I can recommend, unless I have worked with a specific vendor or seen their work, I can’t recommend them, so I have been able to shoot them in the right direction. So what did I do, I created Missoula Wedding about a week ago and we already have 100+ fans that are either local vendors or engaged couples looking for vendors. Sharing information and specials, I think it’s going to be great. If you haven’t already jumped on, sign into your Facebook account and become a fan!
You can also follow Missoula Wedding on twitter. Tweeting and Retweeting wedding related things plus Missoula Wedding tags (So if you want to be retweeted by Missoula Wedding, just tag your tweets with #missoulawedding).
Excited to keep this going, and hopefully soon – other local photographers won’t mind to submit photos so I don’t feel like I’m the only one promoting since I’m the creator. Lol. I’d just love to get the word out to everyone because face it – all vendors are not all going to be available on the same days so it’s always great if we all can lend each other a hand. Enjoy!
Ber and I have handed over the duties of the Hmong Missoula New Year Celebration 2010-11 to Vang Chou Moua and his wife. We held our first annual meeting this past Saturday at the Missoula Public Library and after an hour of debate and elders telling us that we did such a good job and for us to continue to do it again this year, Vang Chou stood up and said he’d gladly do it.
Usually every year, that time is spent critiquing the good and the bad of the event and what needs improvement, and by my surprise, we were not critiqued at all. They were very proud of what Ber and I had done and would like us to continue to help the Hmong community grow. I’m excited to be apart of the growth of this community, and it’s not like I wouldn’t do it again; however with my own business ventures being a little unsteady, I knew I couldn’t take on this task again for this year. I’d probably do it again in a couple more years when things are a little stable for me because it was a great experience, and I have a great passion for helping the Hmong people spread the word about our culture and ways.
Visit http://hmongmissoula.com for pictures from 2009-10 event and a short video trailer of the event done by Ber Yang. You can purchase a video of the event for $10 by contacting him at berweiser@hotmail.com or calling 406-546-2820. Thanks for reading. All the best to Vang Chou Moua and this year’s upcoming celebration. Check back to the Hmong Missoula website for an update on the date/time/location of event!
