Sports Illustrated Shoot for Cat’s Eye Designs – Milkbaby Bikini
Ok – so I lied. It’s not officially a Sports Illustrated shoot but the deal with this photoshoot that I did is that Catherine Thordarson, owner of Cat’s Eye Designs here in Missoula – also designer of Milkbaby Bikini line is to meet with Sports Illustrated in May to hand off and show some of her new one of a kind designs for some of their upcoming issues and she needed some photos to show the guys at SI how the suits would look on. Great opportunity for then of course to be shown to SI and also great opportunity to get some swimsuit photos in the portfolio.
We did the shoot two Saturdays ago, and according to weather reports – there was suppose to be rain and snow, etc – and with my luck, I’m sure it would’ve came true but being as it was there were several other lovely ladies’ luck to be involved; we got beautiful sunshine!! I’ve already shared a couple of photos on my facebook fan page as ‘I do most of my updates there’ (or at least more frequently but less detailed), I thought I’d share some with my blogger audience too – and I know I have been a little busy preparing for this whole thing and post processing that I haven’t had time to blog and didn’t want my readers to feel like I fell off the face of the earth.
It has been crazy but the results are wonderful. Cat’s also going to be using images on her website and promotional materials as well as bikini flip books, so if you want to see more, check those things out, otherwise I don’t want to post too many photos up so that she can at least have some new materials for you all to glance over. (Yay… let’s hope and cross fingers that SI falls in love with my photos and want to keep me on record for future shoots and then hires me onto some exotic shoot somewhere in a foreign land sometime before 2012… lol.)

YWCA Recessionista Fashion Show
The YWCA Secret Secondhand Store had a fashion show to promote their Recessionista Campaign that they are having right now at the Annual Missoula Women’s Fair hosted by Market Place Media on Saturday March 6th. I was asked to go do some photographs for them since I’m sponsoring the campaign and so here are some photos to share! Youa Vang – Missoula’s Choice Local Photographer 2010
Paperwhite Narcissus and the days.
I realized that ever since I started shooting commercial work (things like models, seniors, and weddings), I’ve not had the time to stop for the sunrise or the sunset or the long walks along the river. Wow – where has the day gone? I didn’t get many snow pictures and didn’t get the rain pictures, and haven’t caught the moon luming over the valley…
I’ve got it! My new year’s resolution is that I should still continue to “at least” once a week shoot something… So caught up in post processing and the social media craze, I’ve forgotten why I even want people to come to my website. Now that I have all these fans, it’s like… ‘wait a minute… they signed up as fans because they want to see things.. what the heck have I’ve been doing?’
I’ll tell ya what I’ve been doing, I’ve been spending way too much time tweeting, and getting the message out about me and my services that I’ve forgotten why I do it in the first place. grr… “bad youa”… you tell me that..
So, I thought that perhaps this little white flower was here to remind me of something. It didn’t show this morning as I left for work but on return, there it was peaking out of the bulb… My dear friend, Gabs, gave it to me for Christmas and said – “just water it a bit and once it grows out, you can plant it in your garden.” Well – spring isn’t here yet but it has bloomed. Now I must go buy a nice pot for it to sit in while we wait for the sun.. I don’t know what I did right, but compared to some of the other ladies who got the seed around the same time, mine is almost two feet tall now and it’s still sitting in it’s little cup of rocks while some of theirs are still about two inches…
Ok – so remind me that I must shoot something “artsy” (what I use to name all my neat photo files in the old days) once a week to keep me going. lol. And oh yes – second new years resolution is that I will train and run the Missoula Half Marathon. I know that it’s doable – I just must train. And…
So I figure, most great photographers, or the ones that you might consider to do your photoshoots, have about at least 10 plus years under their belt and a huge portfolio of mixes, odds and ends. I on the other hand have about 5 plus years but my portfolio only has about 1 year’s work in it due to my external hard drive crash in 2008, so now I’m not to worried about “getting there” where as I was before I came to this self realization but I must start building that strong portfolio I seek. I recently did that nice video with my friend Tim Danyo and realized that I don’t have a place where I keep all my “strong” pieces. Must start working at that… So a long term goal of mine, after having read up a lot on other local photogs and other national ones that I admire, is to become as great as they all are.
Lastly – as I write this note, I realized that one of the categories that sit in my blogroll is the “Illustration Friday” one. I must try and dip my toes into some good illustrations. At least 12 pieces this year. Lets hope I can do one once a month, or all twelve this summer (lol… jk), or at least have 6 done by June. I do miss that..
Good night.
Soua & Nou’s little bundle of joy
Ber and I drove out to Spokane today to see him. He was born yesterday at 5-6am time frame. Little guy couldn’t wait to come out into the world so decided to come couple weeks early. He can’t leave the hospital until a couple weeks or so because he hasn’t matured (internally I believe) to understand how to eat. lol. So the little line you see tucked into his nostrils is a little feeding tool. He also doesn’t have enough body fat yet to sustain his body so he’ll likely freeze unless kepted in their little heating incubator thing. Anyways, just wanted to share pics from our day. Long drive back to get to work.. grr. Luckily no work tomorrow. MLK day, but you know – the Newspaper never closes, it’s just that I worked the weekend shift that I get it off. Nighty night.
