National Folks Fest – Butte MT
I had the day off – the Friday of the start of the National Folks Festival in Butte and thought we’d head out that way to see it since this year is the last year it will be held in Butte and of course I didn’t make it out there the first two years it was there. Grr… but then I obviously didn’t do my research when heading out because all the advertising did say: Fri, Sat, & Sun… but I didn’t know that on Friday – it didn’t start until 7pm so we got there early and well – walked around. So the good thing is that we got to see the town and then some of the show but it started to sprinkle and Ber and I needed to head back because we were going to cover the farmers market for my sister-n-law early in the morning so didn’t see much. Well – now if I ever want to go to the Folks Fest, I’ll have to head out to another state
Here are some photos from our trip. - usually post more on flickr, haven’t had the chance yet but will do soon, so check there too!

Memorial Weekend Travels
Last weekend we were suppose to go visit my mommy because they were going to have this hus plig thing but it was cancelled because one of my far grand aunts passed away so they’re moving it to next weekend instead. So Ber and I headed to Great Falls to hang out with some of our friends. It was a nice get away, did nothing much, rest and went and saw some of the dams with the ‘ok’ falls. lol – ok they were ‘great’.
Bloom in the Night
This past week has been crazy. And it’s now May! Yep – can you believe it? Half the year has flown by in the blink of an eye… Spend more time with the ones you love because you’ll never know when they will disappear right in front of you as the time does not stop and turns over to summer days. I was just walking back from watching the sunset and saw these little blossoms dancing in the night and made me all melancholy… so I had to catch them in action as the wind blew threw the brances. enjoy
Kabao & Chee Prom Photo Session
These sessions are so fun to shoot. The couples are young, in love, and just having fun! If you look carefully – you’ll see that we barely missed the rain, and then it came down right after our session. Thanks again to the man above for showing me some love. lol – literally… ok – jk.. it was funny in my head because Ber’s upstairs in his room now (above) and he kept tellling me all day that he was going to make the rain stop just for me.
Help Portrait – in Missoula for MT Head Start Families
You know that feeling of happieness you get when someone says something nice to you or when everything seems like it’s going your way in a day and as you take a deep breath in, you are filled? Yeah – that’s how I feel now as I’m running through some of the photos that I took last night for the Help Protrait event in Missoula – and many of the families have commented that they feel the same. It feels good to give when you have it and good to receive it when you need it.
So according to the national website: Help Portrait is a movement of photographers who are using their time, equipment and expertise to give back to those who are less fortunate. – It is a national event and across several cities in the US, there’s one date dedicated to doing this event. I think that we’ll eventually start following their schedules and participate in promoting this national cause to give back to the community however yesterday we had a similar event for the families of MT Head Start familes in Missoula. Dax Kuehn headed up this project and contacted some local photographers here in town including Crackle Bingham, Martin Fromm, Anne Cruikshank, and myself. There also several other volunteers who helped sign people in, assisted the photographers, and did make up for families who wanted it.
Some of these families have never been able to get professional photos done because of their situations so it was a great feeling to be able to give that back to them and see the smiles on their faces. I know the feeling and wished there were similar events like this back when I was a child because my parents did struggle to get childhood photos of us. I remember it was a photo that an uncle or some far relative can take for us with their camera or just the (use to be) free photos we get from school portraits that we had. We had one family portrait done of our family when I was like 3 or 4 and I remember it was a big deal because my parents had went out of their way to save up for it. Then the second time we had portraits done again was when I was almost 12 because we were also going to get our American citizenship at the time and needed photos done too (kill two birds with one stone kind of thing that was a need rather than a want).
There was a great turn out according to Joan Kuehn, Education Manager of the Head Start Program. She says the event also coincided with a monthly feed event that they do for the participants at the school and usually the turnouts are only half of what showed up yesterday. The following are just a couple of photos of some of the children/families that I took portraits for. Would love to help out again in a future event opened up to the greater community that coincided with the National Help Portrait thing. [deep sigh of happiness]
